Daintree
The group spent the second week of the
trip in the Daintree River/Cape Tribulation area. This area is unique
in that it is one of the few areas in Australia where rainforest meets
coast. The group set up camp at Kingfisher Park; there, they spotted
animals such as the platypus and white-lipped green tree frog, and woke
up every morning to the delightful or dreadful (depending on who you
ask) call of the laughing kookaburra. The students got up close and
personal to wildlife at the Rainforest Habitat, and also took a walk
among the treetops at a Rainforest Canopy Walk. Sugar cane is the dominant
industry in the Daintree area, and the group met with an industry leader
and toured a sugar cane factory.
