The goal of our project is to further expand our toxicity and clinical
databases for use within FDA and to supply industry and the public with
non-confidential chemical and toxicology data extracted from FDA/CDER
files.
The intern will assist the project leader in identifying and adding new
toxicity and clinical data to the current structure-searchable
databases. As
part of the data entry process, the intern will use/learn additional
aspects
of biology and chemistry as they relate to the interpretation of a

clinical data they enter into the database. The intern will gain
experience
in working with ISIS/Draw, Leadscope Enterprise Chemoinformatics
software,
and other software used in chemoinformatics.
The intern should be, at minimum, a junior with a background in biology,

The preferred qualifications a student of Junior or Senior
standing with a strong course background in BSCI-BEES or ENSP or a
closely related discipline, 3.2 or higher GPA; those who do not meet
these criteria may be considered, depending upon their interest and
experience. Specific knowledge of environmental science is helpful
but not required, as long as the student is willing to learn. A
moderate amount of math is a part of the course (i.e., exponential
growth models, budgeting exercises). Interest in environmental
issues is a definite plus, and you must be able to interact in a
helpful and friendly way with freshmen!
The UTA experience will provide an opportunity to help solidify the
UTA's expertise in the fundamentals of environmental science in a way
that only teaching can provide, and will help the students enrolled
in the course to form their first connections with the University.
Interested students should send an email to the course instructor,
Dr. Karen Nelson (katya.nelson@gmail.com, put UTA at the beginning of
subject line) as soon as possible, indicating their interest in the
position, their course experience in related areas, a resume, and
name and contact info for two references. Applications will be
considered immediately, so please reply as soon as possible. |
