| Research: Mammalian cell cycle regulation and chromatin-mediated gene silencing mechanisms. |
Dr. Howard's research focuses on the molecular mechanisms that underlie immortalization and senescence in mammalian cells. His laboratory uses a variety of novel gene transfer techniques to study the function of tumor suppressor genes. In addition, his group has recently sought to relate cell cycle-linked defects in the reassembly of repressive chromatin domains to checkpoint controls. Interspersed repeat elements are studied as model systems for chromatin-mediated gene silencing.
