Research Interests: Molecular biology and immunology of rickettsial pathogens of animals.
The work at Dr. Dutta's laboratory is directed towards the molecular biology, pathogenesis and immunity of rickettsial/ehrlichia pathogens of domestic animals. Major emphasis has been given on Ehrlichia risticii, an equine pathogen. The work is focused on analysis of major antigens of the organism and the associated genes, aiming at identifying protective antigen(s) and developing recombinant vaccine. Nucleic acid based diagnostic probe and PCR have been developed in the study of transmission and epidemiology of the disease.
