Research: Physiology and molecular biology of woody plant growth and development including environmental regulation of woody plant growth, woody plant responses to environmental factors, and nutrition of woody plants.

Growth of temperate deciduous woody plants is characterized by seasonal growth transitions. This alteration in growth phases is fundamental to plant distribution and survival. Research in Dr. Coleman's laboratory is directed at understanding the physiology and molecular biology of woody plant seasonal growth changes. Using Populus as a model system, his research group is investigating the molecular control of nitrogen storage, carbohydrate storage, and cold hardiness.
