a. To learn the various ways that animals use chemicals as defensive agents.

b. To learn how these animals synthesize or otherwise obtain their defensive chemicals

c. To study the strategies that these animals employ to protect themselves from their own defensive chemicals.

d. To learn how specialized predators overcome these defensive strategies.
