CLFS 660: Biodiversity and Conservation Biology

The professor is excellent, response is prompt and valuable. I appreciate his help throughout the course.

I really appreciate Dr. Bottrel's very timely feedback. The guidance given in the website was usually sufficient, but if it was not, Dale answered questions right away.

Overall, I enjoyed the course immensely. It was well laid out on the website. It was easy to access.I do think that there should be some individual projects in addition to the group projects. There is no real way to assess the individual effort on the group projects, so if one member is not contributing equally, they get carried along by the rest. As group leader, I would not "tattle" on one person.I liked the fact that the whole course was accessible all at once, as I plan far ahead--so I could be more organized in my approach.I enjoyed the course a lot.

Greetings, it has been a little bit of time since I last emailed you. I was not too specific with my evaluation because I filled it out right after my final. I think the course was great and I think the research that Dale put into preparing the modules was superb. I think the course did a great job on presenting biodiversity and conservation in a modern and current forum, which makes a subject that is personally not my favorite in the world of biology (I am a molecular biology buff) much less painful and, actually, very relevant. I think Dale was extremely fair with all of the students and I believe that the students in the program were very driven and informed about the field of biology. I am very excited about the continuation of my Masters with this program.

p.s. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you guys publicize. I have not seen much about the program and many young biology teachers have heard nothing of this program. I work at Churchill High in Potomac.

I just wanted to let you know that I have thoroughly enjoyed CLFS 660. The content was very interesting and applicable to what I teach. The interaction between you and all of the students was always prompt, positive, and helpful. I really appreciate how understanding and flexible you were when I began the class late and needed to make up the work. You were also very willing to listen to our comments, and always gave us valuable and encouraging feedback. Although my life has been very hectic lately (teaching full-time, working a second job, coaching, working with the youth at my church, teaching Sunday schoolÅ ) I still enjoyed the coursework. I also loved the fact that I can do the course work whenever it's convenient for me (which is usually late at night), and I do not have to drive an hour and sit in a classroom. This is the only way I can pursue a Master's Degree in my content area, which is what I have always wanted to do. Thanks again for making the course interesting and motivating!

Mr. Botrell, a job well done. I think you were fair and the modules were extremely helpful. I would be happy to talk to prospective students about the class I took. It has been a wonderful experience; it couldn't have better for me as a re-entry into the world of biology and education. Your encouragement at the beginning is much appreciated. You were right that this class would not overwhelm me, but it certainly challenged me! I found the material fascinating, and taking it has confirmed for me that I am going to change careers and become a biology teacher.

I've been inspired by the class. I have been out of the academic environment for quite a while, and it's good to know that I can still achieve. It was harder than I thought; I think the unexercised brain slows down. But the class provided plenty of exercise, and I think I'm getting back into shape. One of the reasons I have chosen this path is to keep me thinking and growing.

I loved this course and look forward to the opportunity to take the next course that fits my schedule.

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. The interaction between the professor and the other students in the course was greater and more prompt than in a traditional classroom setting. Also, the flexibility of completing the coursework at times convenient for me was very useful. Otherwise, I would not have been able to complete a master's course in this content. Thanks for a great course! I will definitely recommend it to others!
