Program Overview
The Summer Research Fellowship Program offers outstanding undergraduates
the opportunity to come to the University of Maryland to participate
in mentor-guided research projects. Fellows function under the guidance
of a faculty mentor on an individual basis or as part of a research
team. During this 7-week experience, fellows are given the opportunity
to learn important skills necessary in academic research careers. Students must have own health insurance.
Eligibility Requirements
Students must be rising seniors with an average GPA of 3.2 or higher
in their major field, and they must have a strong interest in pursuing
graduate study. Additionally, all fellows must be enrolled and recommended
by a faculty member or advisor from one of the partner institutions.
Program Benefits
The program will provide room and parking near residence halls;
meals on and off campus, a university meal card off campus and a Terrapin meal card on campus;
a campus identification card and a campus recreation
activity card, goggles, and a notebook for research
notes; and a fellowship of $3,500.
Summer Research Fellow Responsibilities
Fellows are expected to significantly contribute to their research
project with a full-time commitment. Fellows are also required to
maintain an
Activity Log, in which they comment on their research projects and
program activities. Fellows present their research projects at the
end of the
program in a Research Poster Session.
