Named Spaces
Thanks, in part, to the generous support of our alumni, faculty, staff and friends, the College of Life Sciences houses the following named spaces
Chemistry Teaching Wing:
G. Forrest Woods Chemistry Atrium: Anita Woods Frazer made a significant planned gift to name the G. Forrest Woods Atrium for her late husband, who was a distinguished professor and longtime member of the Chemistry faculty.
Bioscience Research Building:
The construction of a state-of-the-art $69 million Bioscience Research Building adjacent to the existing Biology/Psychology Building began in summer 2004 and was completed in 2007. The building was dedicated in September 2007. The centrally located facility provides 68,000 square feet of flexible laboratory space, which allows for unique and changing configurations to meet researchers’ needs. The 33 faculty-led research groups housed in the building are working on the forefront of research in three critical areas: neuroscience, genomics/proteomics and pathogenesis. The building is equipped with two Biosafety Level-3 labs, which enable researchers to safely work with pathogens, the microorganisms that cause disease. Other resources include a 475-seat lecture hall and eight conference rooms for teaching and professional meetings. Each of the four levels in the building is dedicated to a different area of research: plant molecular and cell biology on the ground floor; neuroscience on the first floor; genomics on the second floor; and host-pathogen interactions on the third floor.
This building provides several significant naming opportunities, including the building itself, the lecture hall, courtyard, lounges and research labs. For more information, please contact Andrea Morris, Assistant Dean for Development and Alumni Relations at (301) 405-0295 or aemorris@umd.edu.
