Faculty Position,
Virus-Host Interactions
As part of a new initiative in the Biological Sciences, the University
of Maryland at College Park, Department of Cell Biology and Molecular
Genetics, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of Virus-Host Interactions.
The rank for this appointment is open, with senior candidates expected to have achieved national and international
stature. Applicants should have an earned doctorate degree in an appropriate area of Biology or Chemistry, at least
two years of postdoctoral experience, evidence of significant research accomplishments and a commitment to excellence
in teaching. Salary and start-up package are competitive and commensurate with experience. The successful applicant
will be expected to direct a competitively-funded research program focused on the interaction between viruses and
any eukaryotic host. All faculty members of the Department also participate in the instructional programs at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels. Researchers using a cell biology approach (e.g., intracellular and intercellular
trafficking; signal transduction; host defense mechanisms; cellular aspects of virus replication) are particularly
encouraged to apply. The successful applicant will join a dynamic and highly interactive group of virologists on
the University of Maryland campus working on animal, plant and fungal hosts, with opportunities for additional
interactions at nearby NIH and USDA Beltsville Agricultural Research Center. We have recently established a shared
microscopy facility for high-performance imaging with state-or-the-art instrumentation. College Park is the flagship
campus of the University of Maryland System, and is located in the Baltimore-Washington DC corridor within easy
access of a large number of educational and governmental institutions. Additional information about the Department

should be received by December 15, 2000 to receive full consideration, but the search will continue until the position
is filled. Materials, including a letter of application, curriculum vitae, statements of research and teaching
interests, and the names and addresses of four references should be directed to:
