The Beahrs Environmental Leadership Program at the University of
California, Berkeley is seeking applicants for the 2004 summer certificate
course in Sustainable Environmental Management.

As part of the Center for Sustainable Resource Development (CSRD) of the
College of Natural Resources, the Beahrs ELP links the complex local and
global environmental challenges of practitioners and decision-makers around
the world with state-of-the-art knowledge and interdisciplinary
perspectives in environmental and natural resource science, management,
policy and leadership at U.C. Berkeley. The core component of the Beahrs
ELP is an annual three-week summer course in Sustainable Environmental
Management held on the Berkeley campus. The summer course provides
interactive training on major environmental/sustainable development topics,
with a focus on management and policy options that balance environmental,
efficiency and social equity objectives. Course graduates become members
of the Beahrs ELP Berkeley Alumni Network that supports on-going learning,
peer exchange and collaborative research and policy projects through the
Small Grants Initiative.

The 2004 summer certificate course will take place from June 26 - July
18. The course brochure and application may be downloaded from the
website: http://cnr.berkeley.edu/BeahrsELP.

The Beahrs ELP seeks 35 to 40 participants who are mid-career environmental
and development professionals from academia, government, NGOs and the
private sector. A limited number of partial scholarships are available.
There are no full scholarships. Application review begins February 1, and
applications must be received no later than March 15, 2004. Please contact
Program Representative, Leslie Correll, or Program Co-directors, Robin
Marsh and David Zilberman, for more information:
BeahrsELP@nature.berkeley.edu. We hope you will forward this email and
share this information with others who may be interested.

Conservation Ecology (http://www.consecol.org) invites our 10,000+
subscribers and all other readers to participate in a manuscript
competition that exploits novel ways of performing integrative science
and policy research. Beginning in 2003, an annual 'Ralf Yorque
Memorial Prize' of 5,000 Euro will be awarded to the most novel paper
that:

1) integrates different streams of science to assess fundamental
questions in the ecological, political, and social foundations for
sustainable social-ecological systems, and

2) employs unique advantages of electronic publishing and facilities
of the WEB to help communicate complex ideas simply. The contributions of the winner and others that pass the normal peer-review process will be published in CE. We want to see your novel ideas of scientific endeavors for the future. Simply indicate if the paper submitted is intended for the Ralf Yorque Competition

For more details about the manuscript competition, please go to:

Applications are now being accepted for a two-week Enviropreneur Camp that will be held June 14-28, 2006, in Bozeman, Montana. The program is designed for early-career environmental practitioners who are interested in learning how markets, contracts, and property rights can work to solve environmental problems. This is a must for anyone doing environmental work.

"Future progress toward improving our environment cannot solely rely upon environmental regulations to get the job done. Environmental leaders will need to learn how to take advantage of market forces to provide incentives to increase efficiencies, eliminate waste and reduce pollution," said Eric Raffini of the EPA, a past fellow in one of PERC's enviropreneur programs.

Participants in the Enviropreneur Camp will receive a $3,000 stipend, out of which they pay their own travel to and from Bozeman. Lodging and meals while in Bozeman are covered. The application deadline for the Camp is Feb. 20, 2006. More details, a preliminary schedule and on-line application are on our Web site, www.enviropreneurs.com.
