Dr. Ades’s
research activities have been in two areas of cell physiology. Most
of the work by his laboratory focused on the regulation of
production and maturation of mitochondrial proteins, particularly of
enzymes involved in the synthesis of metalloporphyrins. More
recently, his interests shifted to the biochemical mechanisms that
regulate angiogenesis.
Dr. Ades joined
the University of Maryland in 1982, and his appointments have
included service as:
§ Acting
Chair of the Department of Microbiology (1992-95)
§ Director
of the Molecular and Cell Biology Program (1993-2004)
§ Chair
of the Department of Microbiology (1995-97)
§ Founding
Chair of the Department of Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics
(1997-2005)
Currently, Dr.
Ades teaches the following courses:
§ Cell
Biology and Physiology (BSCI 330) during the Fall Semester
§ The
Biology of Cancer (BSCI433) during the Spring Semester
§ Undergraduate-level
seminar courses on the Pathophysiology of the Circulatory System and
on Anti-Cancer Drugs - usually during the Spring Semesters. |
