Changing Your Major

Considering a major change INTO the College of Chemical and Life Sciences?

If you would like to change your major to Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or Biochemistry – the three majors that the College of Chemical and Life Sciences offers – you must first attend a Major Change Workshop. These workshops are offered approximately once per week and take place at the Student Affairs Office in 1300 Symons Hall. At this workshop, you will:

  • Meet with a Peer Mentor who will present the College’s academic policies and procedures.
  • Discuss the major choices and concentration options with the College.
  • Sit one-on-one with a Life Sciences Academic Advisor to discuss how your previous coursework will apply to a Life Sciences major.

After you’ve considered the change, you will have the opportunity to change your major on that day…or you can take some time to think about it and come in later to change it.

Do not delay! You do not want to be caught between majors during pre-registration advising for the upcoming semester. If you would like to sign up for a Major Change Workshop, please call 301.405.2080.

Considering a major change WITHIN the College of Chemical and Life Sciences?

If you are already a Biological Sciences (any concentration), Chemistry, or Biochemistry major and you would like to either switch your concentration within Biological Sciences (i.e. you are currently GENB but would like to be CEBG), or change your major to Chemistry or Biochemistry, please come to 1300 Symons Hall and request a major change at the front desk.
