The Biological Sciences program is subdivided into five distinct specializations that differ primarily in the courses taken in the third and fourth years, The lower-level program of the five specializations is identical and consists of three semesters of introductory biology, one semester of genetics, four semesters of chemistry, two semesters of calculus, and two semesters of physics. The upper-level program differs among the five specializations and consists of 27 credits of required and elective applicable courses, including two laboratory courses.
All students meet with a professional advisor each semester to help with course selection and career preparation. We encourage students to follow a specialization that interests them rather than selecting one because they think it will be more attractive to medical or graduate school admission committees. Each of our specializations provides the appropriate prerequisite courses for virtually any postgraduate program. For specific information on each specialization, please go to the undergraduate pages of the College of Chemical and Life Sciences web site.
