Application Procedure Information about the general application procedure and the on-line application form can be found at http://www.gradschool.umd.edu/gss/admission.htm. For applicants with limited access to the Internet, it is possible to print a PDF version of the application which can be mailed to the Graduate School. This PDF document can be downloaded from http://www.vprgs.umd.edu/gems/admission.htm ; scroll down to the end of the page to find the link to the PDF. For reports of GRE scores, use Institution code 5814, Department Code 0299. Our campus program code is CONS. Recommendations and other information you want us to review with your application can be sent to: University of Maryland College Park The Graduate School application information has a list of the general items that constitute an application, but here is a slightly refined list for our program: 1) Write a brief (1-3 page) statement about your reasons for pursuing graduate work in the CONS program. You may wish to discuss past work related to the CONS program, your plans for a career, or how you developed your interest in or knowledge of conservation biology. 2) Write a brief (1-3 page) statement about life experiences that have helped prepare you to pursue a graduate degree at a large, diverse, institution such as the University of Maryland. Among the things you might discuss are your financial, family, and community backgrounds, whether you are the first person in your family to pursue a graduate degree, or any other factors you feel would let you contribute to the diversity of our academic community. You could also describe your determination to achieve your goals, your personal initiative and ability to develop ideas, leadership skills, and your capacity for working through problems independently. 3) 3 letters of recommendation; 4) transcripts from Bachelor's degree and any graduate programs; 5) GRE scores as reported from ETS (report should come from ETS directly) Institution code 5814, department code 0299) 6) a resumé or curriculum vitae It is to your benefit to check online on the status of your application materials once you have sent them. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that the CONS Office receives application components. We will check files for completion sometime in late January, but if we haven't received your application at all there won't be much time left for you to reconstruct it. If you are applying for the dual degree program with the School of Public Affairs, fill out the online application using the program code PPCN and your application will automatically be made available to both the CONS program and the MPP program. In some cases students applying to the dual degree program may only be admitted to one of the programs as these decisions are made independently.
