Biological Sciences ~ PLNT
Specialization in Plant Biology
 |
The specialization area in
Plant Biology draws upon wide interests in the faculty to present a multidisciplinary
approach towards the study of plants and their interactions with other
organisms. Courses are offered at the levels of plant ecology, taxonomy,
pathology, physiology, genetics and molecular biology. A balance of courses
among these topics are required so as to provide an integrated study of
plant biology. However, the student is provided flexibility in expanding
specific areas of interest with courses which deal with non-plant systems
as well. The Plant Biology specialization area is unusual in offering credit
for a number of courses in other colleges to promote cross-disciplinary
interests. The broad background provided by the program is suitable for
jobs or graduate study in biotechnology, molecular biology, conservation
biology, ecology, and agriculture-related fields.
