The American Society for Microbiology provides students with social events as well as educational events. We are currently planning for more events for this year and next. If you have any ideas, email me tdeval@wamand let me know what you think.
This year, we are taking a trip to D.C. to hear Kary Mullis, inventor of the PCR, speak about his new book, we're having a pre-registration with Dr. Smith, a panel discussion on careers in Microbiology, a trip to TIGR at the end of the semester with Dr. Gdovin. We'd like to plan a trip to a brewery, due to the success of our trip to a winery in Virginia.
Last December, the ASM went to Culpeper, Virginia, to visit the Prince Michel winery. We were given a tour of the winery, where we learned about wine-making techniques, everything from acidity testing of the wine to fermenting the wine in steel tanks. We visited the wine-making museum and saw the history of wine-making. At

the end of our visit, we went into the wineshop and tasting room to sample a large range of Prince Michel/Rapidan River wines. We tasted the full spectrum, everything from dry merlots to fruity chardonnays. Prince Michel De Virginia is located between Culpeper and Madison on route 29 south in Virginia.
The winery trip was a great learning experience. If you want to visit or learn more, call 1800 869 8242. The ASM would also like to thank everybody at the winery for making the trip possible.
We'll get more activities info up as it becomes available.
